The Avalanche Review

The Avalanche Review, often referred to simply as TAR, is a trade and scientific journal and A3’s flagship publication. It has served A3 membership and the greater snow science and avalanche community since 1982. TAR articles address advances in forecasting, control techniques, education, and research. Contributors provider balanced content in areas like rescue dogs, search methods, equipment, mitigation, and accident reports, along with related general-interest and timely news facing the profession.

We’ve included a preview from one of our favorite recent issues below, but for the full effect, you’ll have to subscribe to TAR. (A3 General, Affiliate, and Pro memberships include a subscription.)

DIGITAL TAR

The Avalanche Review’s sister publication, Digital TAR or dTAR, is a companion to our longstanding print publication. It’s a curated collection of our favorite classic articles from the archives, news bulletins that can’t wait for the quarterly print cycle, research asks, and reprints of media (like videos, podcasts, and articles from around the web) that work best in a digital format. It’s free to the public.

TAR ARCHIVES

Interested in viewing a past issue of or article from TAR? We’re in the process of working with the University of Montana library staff to archive digitized issues dating back to 1982. We’ll publish a link here when that becomes available—stay tuned!

If you’re interested in viewing an article for scientific or research purposes, we’re happy to help. Drop us a line at a3@avalanche.org and we’ll do our best to find what you’re looking for.
