Our scholarship program moves the needle on our mission to promote expertise and knowledge within the avalanche industry. Partnering with industry leaders, we are proud to help make professional avalanche training more accessible for A3 members.

 
 

ISSW YOUNG PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

The A3 Board of Directors is proud to provide a full registration scholarship for a young professional presenter at ISSW 2024 in Tromso, Norway. Recipient must be 30 years of age or younger on May 1, 2024 and must be presenting a paper during the event.

Applications are due by May 22, 2024.

 

WYSSEN AVALANCHE EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Wyssen, USA (a subsidiary of Swiss-based Wyssen Avalanche Control AG) is pleased to announce two scholarship opportunities for Pro and Affiliate members of the American Avalanche Association (A3). Committed to supporting growth and education in the snow and avalanche community, Wyssen Scholarships will be awarded to individuals seeking additional pro-level avalanche education. Each scholarship will include tuition reimbursement, up to a maximum of $1,500, to be applied towards professional training during the 2023/2024 winter season. One scholarship will be offered exclusively to applicants belonging to an
under-represented demographic within the snow/avalanche community (including, but not limited to women, non-binary genders, BIPOC, LGBTQ).

Applications are due by November 15, 2023.

 

DAVID PETTIGREW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The American Avalanche Association is pleased to offer the David Pettigrew Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to support A3 members from the Pacific Northwest (Oregon or Washington) who are taking their Professional Level 1 or Professional Level 2 Avalanche Course. This is an annual scholarship given each winter in memory of David Pettigrew who grew up on Mercer Island, WA.

Applications are due by November 30, 2023.

 

A3 BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ PRO-TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS

The American Avalanche Association Board of Directors is pleased to offer two Professional Training Scholarships for the 2023/2024 winter season. One scholarship will be awarded to a student completing their Professional Level 1 Course and one scholarship will be awarded to a student completing their Professional Level 2 course. BACKCOUNTRY ACCESS WOMEN’S SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Backcountry Access and the American Avalanche Association are proud to support female-identifying avalanche workers. This season, three (3) $1,500 scholarships will be offered to women taking their Professional Level 1 or Professional Level 2 Avalanche Courses. These scholarships are offered exclusively to female-identifying A3 Professional and Affiliate Members in the hopes of continuing to support the professional development of female avalanche workers.
